WISCONSIN LANDLORD TENANT LAWS

Some cities in Wisconsin have enacted stronger Landlord Tenant Laws then the state law. Check with your local authorities to confirm your local rules.

· In many instances, the landlord is required to provide you with a "check-in" form. On this form, you will note any damages or problems in a unit when you move in. This protects the rights of both the landlord and tenant.

Security deposit - WISCONSIN: All of the money a tenant pays to a landlord before signing a lease, including any prepaid rent above one month's rent

Your landlord has 21 days after you move out to either return your deposit or tell you in writing why she/he is keeping all or part of your deposit.

MADISON WISCONSIN ONLY If your security deposit was more than half of a month's rent, your landlord must pay simple interest from the time you pay the deposit until the time you move out (MGO 32.07(3)). The interest rate changes every year.
