New York Tenants (and Landlords)  are fortunate that there are many resources for them to turn for answers to their questions or assistance to resolve landlord tenant issues. RentLaw.com has put together a list of some of these resources.

 - New York Attorney General -  Contact List

 - RENT HOTLINE New York Rent Stabilization and Rent Control:
                 718-739-6400. See more information

Division of Housing and Community Renewal
http://www.dhcr.state.ny.us/

25 Beaver Street, Manhattan
 - For rent stabilized tenants only. Bring your lease or proof of address and get the rent history. This will indicate whether you are being illegally overcharged, and may reveal other information. If your overcharged, you may be able to collect damages against your landlord.

Department of Buildings
60 Hudson Street, Manhattan
 - Bring proof of address and request a Certificate of Occupancy (CO) . If there is no CO for  your building, find out why not. (The housing court dismisses all rent cases against tenants living in post-1925 buildings if the certificate of occupancy is missing.)
