. Property Management and Absentee Landlords. For tenants - you may never see your landlord or owner and may only deal with a local real estate agent or property manager. Be sure to keep detail records (copies) of all transactions and conversations. Note in your lease, a typical clause may state something like "...all agreements must be writing...".  So if the property manager says one thing, the owner another - you might be held to the terms of the lease. For Landlords   - know your property manager or agent. Like you would a tenant, your agreement should be in writing, detailing all costs and responsibilities - tenant verification, vacancy control, repairs more. See our new Property Management Center.
